We are probably facing a period of consolidation of the crypto markets in the Nordic and Northern Europe, with acquisitions and mergers between the players. In this development, CEO Arvid Börje Ramberg of GreenMerc intends to take an active and consolidating role.
Kaupr and Morten Myrstad have videointerviewed Ramberg after GreenMerc presented good figures for the fourth quarter of 2024 and last year as a whole. But in the conversation, we've focused on GreenMerc's journey, from a newly established company in 2021, via multiple acquisitions and up to today. We also talk about how traditional finance, Fintech and crypto are converging.
We want to be a bank. And we will combine traditional finance with digital assets, because that is what we are convinced is the future. All financial players will need to manage digital assets and cryptocurrencies in the future. And then we are positioning ourselves to be able to serve customers even now,” says Ramberg in the interview.
Ramberg believes there is also now a trend shift taking place in the relationship between traditional finance and crypto. “What we have seen over the past year is that more and more financial players are beginning to understand that they cannot stand outside this digital revolution. And there we are well positioned. It's also cool to see that players like Klarna, and Blackrock in the US, are more and more understanding that this is something to move into.
Ramberg also sees very positively that players like Klarna are now opening up to embrace crypto, not least because it could make both banks and Swedish financial authorities understand that crypto is here to stay.
Along the way to where GreenMerc stands today, the company has acquired, among other things, the crypto exchanges Trijo in Sweden (2022) and NorthCrypto in Finland (2024), and has also entered into agreements on new acquisitions. In the interview, we therefore go into more detail about GreenMerc's strategy, the consolidating role of the company, the IPO in Sweden and the importance of the company's proprietary technology platform.
We also ask Ramberg about how he views the competitive situation in the Nordic countries, represented by Safello, Firi and K33, among others. Yes, we also ask if GreenMerc itself is for sale.
This is an interview you should catch, if you are wondering what the future financial system and structure in the Nordic region might look like.
