The crypto exchanges and crypto brokers in the Nordic region are positioning themselves for increased competition in both the Nordic region and northern Europe, a competition that is likely to intensify as Europe becomes an integrated crypto market.

The largest crypto exchange in the Nordic region is Safello, which has now passed 400,000 clients and which also has international expansion plans. While several of the other competitors are listed on the stock exchange, Firi is still unlisted. However, under the leadership of Thuc Hoang, Firi is by far the most profitable player, with a profit in 2024 of over NOK 100 million. Firi now has 315,000 customers, with Norway as a strong home market. Growth in Denmark has well somewhat slower than expected but Firi also has ambitions to enter Sweden.
The only player so far with a declared M&A strategy (Mergers & Acquisitions) is GreenMerc, which is led by Arvid Börje Ramberg (bottom right in the picture). In a recent interview with Kaupr Ramberg tells both about GreenMerc's history, the acquisition of Swedish Trijo in 2022 and the acquisition of Finnish NorthCrypto in November last year
Shortly after K33 presented its results for Q4 2024, we also interviewed Torbjørn Bull Jenssen (bottom left), CEO of K33, which, like Safello and GreenMerc, is also listed in Sweden. K33's stated strategy is not to become a crypto bank, but to grow by enabling their trading platform to be adopted by banks, Fintech players and others. The K33 is even waiting to income via partnership will eventually grow beyond that generated directly via K33's own customers.
In the Swedish market we also find Goobit Group and the operative crypto exchange bt.cx. In Norway, we have both NBX, which is also aiming to become a crypto bank, and Bare Bitcoin, which has chosen its own distinct niche, namely offering trading only in Bitcoin. In Finland, the key crypto exchanges are Kvarn X, Conmotion and Northcrypto, which are now part of GreenMerc.
