Stuck but polite fronts in Bitcoin duel in #pengepodden

Bjørn Erik Sättem and Nordnet invited this week to a Bitcoin duel in #pengepodden between the crypto skeptic Robert Næss (investment director at Nordea), and the crypto enthusiast. Torbjørn Bull Jenssen (CEO of Arcario and K33). The standpoints were as deadlocked as before, but the conversation also turned out to be what presenter Sättem invited: A discussion between balanced, well-behaved and grown-up people.

Stuck but polite fronts in Bitcoin duel in #pengepodden

Sättem first asked Bull Jenssen to highlight five arguments that Bitcoin is here to stay and will be a good investment object in the long run. Sättem similarly asked Næss to find five arguments that Bitcoin is not here to stay and that it will be a bad investment. Then Sättem led the debaters through all 10 points.

Several of the well-known topics were debated, such as whether Bitcoin can be an alternative to gold, whether Bitcoin can evolve to become a recognized global currency, the energy consumption and emissions associated with the production of Bitcoin, criminal use, Bitcoin as a payment solution, etc.

The discussion partners also touched on what it might mean that the major US asset managers, with Larry Fink at Bitcoin in the lead, have reversed in their views on Bitcoin and have now launched Bitcoin spot-based ETFs.

Sättem explained that in this podcast one chose to focus on Bitcoin, which makes up half the value of all cryptocurrencies. It thus became essentially a discussion for and against Bitcoin. Key features related to other blockchains, such as stablecoins, smart contracts, tokenization of Real World Assets, NFTs etc. were thus to a small extent covered, except at the very end of the program.

Regardless, we at Kaupr applaud the fact that supporters and opponents of Bitcoin and crypto meet and debate with each other, thereby contributing to increased public awareness, critical spotlight and democratic debate.
