Swedish crypto exchange Safello has today added five new cryptocurrencies to its trading platform, including memenoins linked to Trump and Melania. Safello is thus, along with NBX, one of two Nordic crypto exchanges that offer these memenoins.
When a week and a half ago we interviewed CEO Emelie Moritz, Safello had no immediate plans to make memenoins like $TRUMP and $MELANIA available to its customers. “Not right now, we will announce in our social channels if we add them,” Moritz told Kaupr at the time.
In a press release, Safello describes the criteria the company used to add the five new cryptocurrencies: “These additions reflect Safello's commitment to offering a wide range of investment opportunities, including tokens related to scalability solutions, decentralized protocols, and pop cultural phenomena.”
Also in the interview a week and a half ago, Moritz described memenoins like $TRUMP and $MELANIA as cultural phenomena: “They're based on hype and trends rather than technical basis or practical use. They attract speculators quickly, but their value is mostly guided by what people think, media reporting and market psychology.”
The first crypto exchange to offer these memenoins was NBX, which a week and a half ago quickly made them available through the company's OTC department. NBX at the time described the two cryptocurrencies as “unchallenged.”
Two other Norwegian crypto trading venues, K33 and Bare Bitcoin, by contrast, made completely different choices: “We focus on price and liquidity, not on the 'last scream',” CEO Torbjørn Bull Jenssen of K33 told Kaupr. “Pure gambling and casino,” was the pointed wording of CEO Torkel Rogstad of Bare Bitcoin.

The other three cryptocurrencies added at Safello are Arbitrum (ARB), Optimism (OP) and Popcat (SOL). The new cryptocurrencies are available for trading from today both through the web and mobile apps. Safello now offers trading with a total of 32 cryptocurrencies.
