The first months of the year have been marked by the entry of classic finance into the crypto world in the form of large US asset managers who have invested billions of dollars in Bitcon Spot-based ETFs. And this is just one of the meetings currently taking place between crypto and traditional finance. But what does this mean, and what consequences will it have, for both the crypto industry and classical finance? Ken-Erik Ølmheim earlier this year invited Morten Myrstad from Kaupr to a live talk in Krypto Labs.
We share here an edited recording from the conversation, where we have focused on trends and issues that point beyond the snapshot.
In the conversation, Ølmheim and Myrstad of course discuss the significance of the fact that the US EFTs were finally approved by the US Financial Supervisory Authority and are now continuously marketed and sold to US investors. Both Ølmheim and Myrstad believe that this is historically a major event. But the two also discuss the market and technology developments in crypto and what it takes to bring about increased adaptation from consumers and businesses.
Along the way, Ølmheim asks Myrstad about his views on the similarities and differences between crypto and classical finance, based on the fact that Myrstad also has a background as a journalist in classical finance. Here, the two cover both more general topics such as cultural differences, knowledge building, dress codes and “merch”. At the same time, Myrstad believes that the time has come for banks and finance in the Nordic countries to take a closer look at what crypto and blockchain technology could mean for them.

When Myrstad in conversation refers to “Morten i Sparebank 1” it is about Morten Søberg. Similarly, when Myrstad talks about “Ole Morten and Nikolai in DNB”, it is about Ole Morten Sunde and Nikolai Nyrud Gobel.
