New life in Bitcoin as a digital ecosystem. We interview Torkel Rogstad about Layer 2.

Bitcoin is no longer just about Bitcoin as a “store of value” or as “digital gold”. In recent weeks, there has been new momentum in the development of Bitcoin as a digital ecosystem, including the development of new technologies and the launch of a number of new Layer 2 solutions. We have video interviewed Bitcoin expert Torkel Rogstad, who is very pleased that there has once again become a broad eagerness and enthusiasm to do new things on Bitcoin.

New life in Bitcoin as a digital ecosystem. We interview Torkel Rogstad about Layer 2.

Rogstad believes that the new development could help realize what many Bitcoin enthusiasts have been arguing all along, that anything that an Altcoin can do, it can Bitcoin do even better. Nevertheless, most development communities and venture companies in recent years have focused on Ethereum, Solana and other blockchains as platforms for scaling and developing decentralized applications.

Hit well

Further down in this article you can watch the new video interview with Torkel Rogstad. Early in the interview Rogstad also refers - with a smile - to an interview we did with him last fall, under the title “Only Bitcoin and Torkel Rogstad are getting ready for a bull market”. You can find this interview here.

Ordals an Important Culture Shift

In the recent video call with Torkel Rogstad, we talk, among other things, about Ordinal, Bitcoin's answer to Ethereum's collectibles in the form of NFTs and which was launched about a year ago. Rogstad believes that it is quite possible to be both for and against Ordinal, but that what should be appreciated, possibly also as a “Bitcoin maxi”, is that Ordinal has created a new cultural climate in relation to Bitcoin as a development platform and as a digital ecosystem.

Scaling through new technologies

In addition to Ordinal, Rogstad believes another new technology has also helped spark new interest in Bitcoin as a development platform. The second is BitVM, a new way of doing calculations, on which very many of the new Layer 2 solutions on Bitcoin are built. It can thus facilitate increased scalability in the form of Rollups and, over time, less complexity in developing new applications on Bitcoin.

Lightning can't solve everything

We also discuss Lightning, which until now has been virtually exclusive as a Layer 2 solution, but which Torkel believes has limitations beyond payments. We also talk about Stacks, which in recent weeks have risen strongly in price and are now among the 30 highest valued Tokens.

Increased Enthusiasm

Rogstad emphasizes that some of the new technologies and Layer 2 solutions are unfinished, but that they have already contributed to a greatly increased enthusiasm and interest in development on Bitcoin, both from developers, startups and venture companies.
