On Saturday, more than 100 Bitcoiners will meet in Oslo to establish an interest organization, called Bitcoin Institute Norway. The initiators believe that an organization is needed that can help increase knowledge about Bitcoin and influence Norwegian politicians.
The idea of a Bitcoin-focused interest organization has matured in an interaction between Svein Ølnes, researcher and lecturer on Bitcoin and the presenters Jens Lito and Haakon Sandbakken in the Norwegian podcast Bitcoinsnakk. You can hear more about the plans for a Bitcoin-friendly Norway in this episode of Bitcoinsnakk-
The initiative has been met with great interest in the Norwegian Bitcoin community. The number of members is close to 80 and the organization has received donations in BTC worth over NOK 27,000. During the foundation meeting in Oslo on Saturday, both statutes will be adopted and a board elected to take the organization forward. A permanent position as Secretary General of the organization has also been announced. BPI Norge has also received a logo (see picture on this article), which is developed by designer Mr. Pixel Paranoia.
In the Bitcoin environment, the value of privacy stands high. Therefore, in order to ensure the participants' possibility of complete anonymity, there is a photo ban at the organization's events. The event Saturday will also be streamed, but without attendees appearing, so that anonymity is maintained as best as possible.
What will BPI Norge work on? X states that “BPI Norge promotes sensible regulations for Bitcoin use, saving and mining in Norway, based on a holistic and fact-based understanding of Bitcoin.” In the job advertisement mentioned above, BPI Norge is described as a politically and religiously independent organization dedicated to promoting knowledge and understanding of Bitcoin in Norway. “BPI Norge aims to be Norway's leading knowledge center for Bitcoin, and to work to raise awareness, education and favorable conditions for Bitcoin adoption throughout society.”
You can find more information about BPI Norge at X/Twitter, on the home page, which will have more information on March 1 and in the aforementioned episode of Bitcoinsnakk, where Svein Ølnes and the working group for BPI Norge tell more about their plans for the future.
